Guerras de Edições são coisas relativamente comuns, um dos motivos prováveis na qual D&D ainda existe e alguns de nós visitam a Spell, mas algumas vezes podem atingir proporções que me fazem questionar a sanidade de seus participantes.
Apresento a vocês a Queima de Livros da 4e (https://plus.google.com/100747085754234335719/posts/7gfe8dEGXoi), feita para comemorar o fim da 4e e o retorno do "Real D&D". Deixo aqui a justificativa de um dos participantes dela:
This was a special one, just for 4e, to celebrate the return of D&D. It was supposed to take place just before the new starter set was released, but then WOTC went and released it to game stores a week early.
For me this was just some fucking around; a nice little bit of performance art prior to the Big Event the next weekend; running 23 people through the starter set in a marathon 12-hour gaming session. A kind of "closing one door to open another", both in a big way. The next morning I took photos of finding the 5e set buried and unscathed in the ashes of fire. Other people had other reasons for attending.
There were heartfelt testimonials from several people. Mine were fairly innocuous and rang through on themes from my reviews: the triumph of The Technocracy over The Traditions, turning an imaginative dream in to mechanistic drudgery. Others were not so kind, and I was a bit surprised at the venom. The splitting of groups, the loss of friendships, the breakup of games and drifting apart of old friends. Forcing people in to Not-D&D in order to play. I guess it's not all that surprising; RPG's are best when they are social games, shared among friends, and combined with the awkwardness that can make social interactions difficult, it's no wonder that there were such strong feelings ... about an elf game.

Ontem eu participei de um leilão por um edição deluxe de werewolf 20th, dei um lance de 151 dólares que, se não tivesse sido coberto no ultimo momento por outro lance (sério, faltando menos de 1 minuto) teria vencido e me feito gastar em torno de R$500 (valor do lance + frete) com um único livro de RPG. Passado o momento de adrenalina comecei a me questionar e me peguei pensando "sou muito idiota de gastar tudo isso com um único livro?", dormi com essa dúvida. Agora vejo que não, tem gente que consegue ser pior que eu, assim, muito pior. Eles estão, literalmente, queimando um investimento de um valor incrivelmente alto, digo pela quantidade de dinheiro que todos os livros dentro dessa caixa reunidos devem ter custado. Se eles tivessem colocado isso a leilão ou como usado na amazon por qualquer quantia tinha sido comprado, eles tinham recuperado parte (ou todo) o investimento e podiam torrar a grana com a 5e.

Quer um detalhe ainda mais curioso? O autor desse evento comprou novamente os livros da 4e apenas para queimá-los. Em certo sentido, a Wizards of the Coast tem que agradecê-lo por ser um cliente melhor do que muitos fãs da 4e. :P

"Burning books... I hope some day you stop taking your hobbies so seriously and find real happiness in your life, instead of hiding all your anger, sadness, loneliness and feeling of inadequacy in how much you hate "that other RPG".
